Updated calendar for the rest of the semester
Thursday, Dec. 1: Open lab to work on your kiosk project.
Tuesday, Dec. 6: Kiosk project due. Final exam review.
Thursday, Dec. 8: Web portfolio due. Final exam.
Note: With the updated schedule, we no longer have a need to meet during finals week, so you can enjoy break sooner!
Cool video posted by the Vimeo Video School surveying the world of “Motion Design,” a skill I’ve long realized I need to spend some time learning. If you have six minutes, this is an interesting piece.
Sample kiosk
Click here to open the example kiosk I showed you. Remember, it’s not perfect, and yours may need to look entirely different to be effective, but you may find it useful to see how this one is put together.
And here’s a link to the assignment description again, although you’ll recall I asked you to ignore the LiveType animated text requirement.
Your kiosk is due in 2 weeks, the Thursday after Thanksgiving, Dec 1.
Extra credit opportunity
Here’s the Facebook invite for an event happening this Thursday. Attend, select a memorable quote from the graphic designer speaker, and write at least four sentences on Tumblr about why the quote is important to you. 10 extra credit points.
I know you said it is a flyer promoting what you'll be doing your kiosk about, but Im still unclear what this flyer should entail. If I do something on something like baking... what am i promoting? Would it be promoting like a baking class or something?
So not only do you need to imagine what your kiosk will teach, but what form it might be. It’s an interactive experience, so you could imagine it as a touchscreen kiosk in a museum, maybe a website, an iPad app, or something else entirely more creative. I’m not grading you on the premise, so don’t worry about it too much, but try to figure out where your interactive kiosk experience will live—that’s what you’re promoting with the flyer.
Final Project description
Click here to view a PDF describing the requirements for the final project. Remember that this Thursday your next assignment is due, a flyer promoting your final project.
Why your animated GIFs might not be animating on Tumblr
My friend Marissa, a connoisseur of animated GIFs, has the answer.
Most animated GIFs, including this one I made, are bold, eye-catching, and even annoying…
…but imagine the impact a subtle animated GIF could have as part of a larger design. There are certainly many creative, unconventional uses for this technique.
